Contribution towards Curriculum Expenses (Extras Fee)
We are very aware that we are living in times of financial difficulty and have minimised school expenses as much as possible. However, funding is required for photocopying, visual arts materials, parallel readers, IT software and shared text books. Your contribution is invaluable in subsidising these curriculum resources. The contribution for the 2009/2010 School Year has remained the same as last year, €75 for Junior Infants and €68 for Senior Infants to Sixth Class pupils. An envelope has been given to the eldest child in each family. If your envelope is mislaid or damaged, a supply will be available for collection at Reception. Please return the money in the envelope provided to assist the tracking of payments. We would like to thank you for your generosity in the past and look forward to your continuing support in the future.

Coolmine Community School
Open Evening for parents and students who are interested in attending Coolmine Community School in the academic year 2010/2011 takes place on Thursday 08 October at 7.30pm.

Mobile Phones
Should parents feel the need for their child to bring a mobile phone to school, it must be kept in the schoolbags or as directed by the class teacher. Mobile phones must be switched off during the school day, on school premises, grounds and during off-site school activities. In emergency situations, children may ask their class teacher or at Reception for permission to use the phone. Pupils who ignore this policy will no longer be allowed to have a mobile phone in school. The school cannot accept any responsibility for theft, loss, damage or health effects (potential or actual) resulting from mobile phone use.

Family Quiz
The Parents Association Committee are organising a Family Quiz on Sunday 18th October in the School Hall from 3pm-5.30pm. Further details will be included in next week's newsletter and on the website.

German for Kinder
With over 100 million native speakers, German is the most commonly spoken language in Europe. It is also an important language worldwide for business, tourism and diplomacy. Exposing children to a foreign language at an early stage will not only lower their inhibition to learn it in secondary school, but motivate them strongly to perfect their language skills further. In a fun and friendly atmosphere, students will get to know the language through age appropriate exercises, games and songs. Taught by a registered and experienced German teacher (native speaker). Registration after a first, FREE class will be held in the "Back Room" on Monday, 12th Oct., 2.10-2.40 pm, for 1st- 6th class. Fee for 1st semester (till 8th Feb '10) is 90 Euro.
