St Patrick’s Day
The school will close on Monday 18 March for St Patrick’s Day. The school will reopen on Tuesday 19 March.
Seachtain na Gaeilge
Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge buailte linn aris. We are having lots of fun activities to promote Gaeilge in the school this week. Most of all, we hope everyone will have plenty of “sport agus spraoi” as Gaeilge. Perhaps you could use a “cúpla focal” at home too!
Mórshiúl
We will be having a Mórshiúl for the children during the school day this Friday 15 March. Children may wear a green top or tshirt with their school tracksuit bottoms if they wish.
Easter Break
The school will close on Friday 22 March at 11.30am for the Easter Break. It will remain closed from Monday 25 March to Friday 05 April inclusive and will reopen on Monday 08 April.
Services for First Penance and Reconciliation
Services for First Penance and Reconciliation for children preparing to receive First Holy Communion will take place in St Mochta’s Church for children of Scoil Choilm and St Patrick’s NS on Thursday 14th March at 7pm. One parent and child should attend the service.
CCC First Years 2014 (current 5th Class)
An Information Afternoon & Evening is taking place today, Wednesday 13 March in CCC.
Head Lice
We have had a number of recurring cases of head lice in the school recently. If your child is given a letter to say there is a case in the classroom, we would appeal to you to follow the guidelines on the letter to ensure all lice and eggs are removed/destroyed.
Basketball Blitz
“On Tuesday the 5th of March, St Patrick’s Basketball team went to St Benedict’s N.S. Ongar to compete in a 4th – 6th Class Basketball Blitz. The team tried their best and came 3rd. Well done to everyone who competed”. Aran & Alec – 4th Class
Cake Sale
The Cake Sale for UNICEF Syria Appeal which took place last Friday for 5th & 6th Class children in Ms McCormack’s classroom raised €640. A big thank you to all involved.
Bekind Ireland Living Shamrocks
As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge and in celebration of St Patrick, our patron saint, a group of students from CCC will be selling living shamrock on Thursday and Friday at the Pedestrian Walkway. All proceeds go to Bekind Ireland, a locally run Charity which supports street children in Calcutta and works closely with students from CCC. Dublin 15 Cross Country League
The third cross country meeting takes place on Tuesday 16th April at Porterstown Park. First race 11.30am sharp. All supporters welcome. Please note that the Grand Finals of the League will be held at Morton Stadium, Santry on Tuesday 21st May.
Junior Sport for All Day (Sen Infants – 2nd Class)
The Junior Sport for All Day (Senior Infants – 2nd Class) will take place, weather permitting, on Wednesday 17th April. Children should wear their school tracksuit and suitable footwear. They should also bring an extra drink with them, along with their usual lunch. Here’s hoping for a dry day and lots of fun for everyone!
“Knock-out Trials” for School Santry Team – Cumann na mBunscol Athletics Championships
Trials are still on-going for this year’s school team. We now have a shortlist for each age category. The children who have made it onto the shortlists will be informed over the next week. Final selection will be made from these lists. It should be noted that selection is based on a number of points – athletic ability, team spirit, sportsmanship, general behaviour etc. The remainder of the “Knock-out Trials” will be held after school. Those who make it onto the shortlists must attend if they want to be considered for the team. Those selected for the team must be available for the championships held at Morton Stadium, Santry, the last week in May and/or first week in June. The following schedule has been put in place, but further dates will be advised in the coming Newsletters:
Thursday 11th April U13½ Boys and Girls from 2.15 – 3.00 (outside, in Basketball Area, weather permitting)
Friday 12th April U12 Boys and Girls from 2.15 – 3.00 (outdoors as above)
Thursday 18th April U11 Boys and Girls from 2.15 – 3.00 (outdoors as above)
Friday 19th April U10 Boys and Girls from 2.15 – 3.00 (outdoors as above)
Children should line up in yard outside Diswellstown Door at 2.15 where they will be met by teacher. Please note that training may be cancelled if the ground is too wet. Also note that other dates/times may need to be added in order to prepare for the event. Children will be informed at school of any changes.
Birthday parties
If your child is having a birthday party and inviting children from the class, the distribution of invitations must be done outside school, as children who are not on the guest list can feel upset and isolated. Please do not ask school personnel for phone numbers or addresses of children in the class. Schools, like all institutions, must adhere to the terms of the Data Protection Act.
Staff Car Park
Please note that parents are asked not to park in the Staff Car Park between 8.00am and 2.30pm, the only exception being parents collecting disabled or injured children. We would be grateful if you could also inform anyone who may be collecting your child/children on your behalf of this procedure.
If you are returning to the school to drop off forgotten lunches, schoolbags, etc. during the school day, we would ask that you park in the bus stop area and enter via the Pedestrian Gate. (Please close gates after you leave). We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Access Arrangements
To minimise heat loss and for the safety and security of all the pupils, children who arrive late for line-up in the morning should access the school as follows:
Anti-Bullying Talk on Tuesday 19th March - POSTPONED
Due to the public meeting in CCC on Tuesday 19th March about the shelved school extension, we have postponed the Anti-Bullying Talk for Parents until Tuesday 16th April. More information on the talk will be available closer to the time.
National Parents Council Survey
The National Parents Council are conducting a survey on the costs involved in sending your child to school and would be grateful if parents could complete the following survey, it only takes 2 minutes to complete. Art & Crafts Workshops
Art & Crafts takes place on Monday from 2.10pm to 3.45pm. A wide range of art activities used to develop skills and foster creativity. The new 10 week term begins on Monday 4th March. Some places available, contact Bláthnaid on 087 4123247 for full details.
FAI/Fingal Soccer Easter Camp for Girls
This will take place on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th March from 11.00am-1.00pm in the Diswellstown Community Centre. The coaching will be provided by a qualified FAI coach and will be aimed at our 2nd & 3rd Class girls.
