Junior Infants September 2014

The closing date for return of Acceptance Forms is Friday 15 November.

Parent/Teacher Meetings
Parent/Teacher Meetings will take place next Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November. By now you should all have appointment times; a note in School Journal for 1st Class upwards and a family slip if you have more than one meeting to attend. If there is any conflict of information in the above two notes, please contact Andrea at 8249930 ASAP. The timetables have been organised so that parents who have to attend more than one meeting have been offered all their appointments on either Wednesday or Thursday. You will understand, therefore, that it is not possible for the school to facilitate requests for a change of day and/ or time because of the effect this would have on other class timetables.

To ensure the smooth running of the Parent Teacher Meetings, we would greatly appreciate your cooperation regarding the following:

  • Each meeting is of ten minutes duration. The school bell will ring to advise you that your ten minute session is over. Please do not remain for longer as this disrupts the schedule for everybody.
  • If the previous meeting is still in session at your appointed time, please knock on the door to signal your arrival.

Science Week

Science Open Day takes place tomorrow, Thursday 14 November, in the PE Hall.  Parents are welcome to visit between 12.45 – 2.00pm.

The Parent Association are pleased to announce that Sheila O’Malley of practicalparenting.ie will return to St Patrick's NS on Thursday 14th November to facilitate a talk for parents entitled "Never do for a child what a child can do for themselves!" Sheila's talks are fun and insightful, you are guaranteed to come away having learned something. The talk is suitable for parents of children of all ages and will take place in the School Foyer at 8pm after the Christmas Fair donations drop.

School Calendars
The PA has extended the final order date to this Friday 15 November.  No further orders can be accepted after this date.  A small number of extra copies will be printed and will be available for sale on a first come, first served basis at the Christmas Fair.

Donations for the Christmas Fair
It's that time of year again and donations are required for the St Patricks Annual Christmas Fair which takes place on 1st December.  Maybe you would like to donate a prize, a box of sweets, toys, bottles.....all gratefully accepted.

We would love unwanted and/or new gifts, books, games, DVDs, PC / Wii / Xbox games and of course, bottles (for the ever popular Bottle Stall).

Please remember that all items should be in saleable condition.

We also need toys – new or second-hand, but complete, clean and in working order, suitable for kids aged 4 years and above. Especially Games, Jigsaws (all complete) Costumes and Character Toys –most welcome!

It you are a ‘morning’ person we plan to have volunteers at the main gate on those ‘Drop – off Days' to make the drop off as swift and handy for you. Alternatively, drive to the School on one of the designated evenings - we’ll be delighted to see you then.

Reminders

Procedure for Entering the School Building each Morning
To ensure safe and orderly access to the school grounds, the gates will open a few minutes before 8.30am. Parents and children walking to school should use the Pedestrian Entrance. No Cycling, Scootering or Rollerblading is permitted on school grounds. Children must go to their class line up area and remain there until the school bell rings at 08.30am. Classes are collected from the yard by their teacher and entry doors are then closed. In the early weeks of Junior Infants, parents may accompany children to the classroom.

Children may not enter the school building until 08.30am.
Parents are responsible for the welfare of their children until the school’s duty of care begins at 8.30am. On wet mornings, please time your arrival for 8.30 – 8.40am.

To minimise heat loss and for the safety and security of all the pupils, children who arrive late for line-up in the morning should access the school as follows:

  • 2nd – 6th Class children will enter via the Diswellstown (Tigers) Door only.
  • Junior Infants – 1st Class children will enter via the Carpenterstown Door only.
  • Children who arrive after 8.50am must enter via the main school entrance and sign the Sign-In Book.
