Nuts Allergies in School
We have a number of children in the school who are allergic to nuts.  We are therefore asking that no child brings nuts or products containing nuts (e.g. Nutella, Peanut Butter, etc) to school as part of their school lunch.  We would greatly appreciate your full cooperation in this matter.

Reading Buddies
Our annual Reading Buddies Programme for first to fourth classes will be commencing shortly.  This will involve the children in third and fourth classes doing paired reading with the children in first and second classes for ten minutes twice a week, over a 10 week period.

This is a simple and effective reading technique, which usually results in improvements in reading confidence for most pupils. We found in previous years that there was a positive response from the children, who enjoyed making new friends, as well as contributing to a positive attitude towards reading.

Catholic Schools Week
Catholic Schools Week (CSW) will be celebrated from 26th January to 2nd February 2014. The theme for CSW this year is Catholic Schools: places of faith and learning. The week will celebrate our schools, where Faith is learned, lived, shared, served and celebrated. St Mochta’s Parish will be celebrating our Parish Schools with special liturgies on Sunday 26th at 10.30 for St Mochta’s NS and St Patrick’s NS at 12 o’clock masses.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

ACCORD Relationship Programme for 5th & 6th Class
A talk for Parents of 5th and 6th Class children will take place on Wednesday 12 February at 8.00pm in the Tigers Room. Please enter via the Diswellstown (Tigers) door.  Accord Facilitators will attend the school to speak to the children on 24 February (5th Class) and 25 February (6th Class).  Parent Consent Forms will be distributed to the children in the first week of February.  Please note forms MUST be returned to the class teacher by Friday 14 February whether or not you are giving consent for your child to attend. An email copy of the consent form will also be sent to all parents for your convenience.

If you have ordered a School Calendar at the Christmas Fair and have not yet received it, it is available for collection from the school office at your convenience.

Reminders
Access Arrangements
To minimise heat loss and for the safety and security of all the children, children who arrive late for line-up in the morning should enter as follows: 

• 2nd – 6th Class children will enter via the Diswellstown (Tigers) Door only.
• Junior Infants – 1st Class children will enter via the Carpenterstown Door only.

Extra Curricular Activities

Musical Theatre, Drama & Singing Classes
New term begins on Tuesday, 21 January.  Classes at 1.10 – 2.10 for Junior and Senior Infants; 2.10 – 3.10 for 1st and 2nd class and 3.10 – 4.10 for older children.  Depending on numbers there may be other classes on Monday for Junior/Senior infants 1.10 – 2.10 and 1st and 2nd classes 2.10 – 3.10 pm.  Individual lessons are available upon request.  Preparation for RIAM and LSM singing exams and Junior and Leaving certificate practicals also available.  For details please contact Toni Martin at 087 7913714 or email martin.toni1@gmail.com. 

La Jolie Ronde French classes @ St Patrick’s
Places still available after-school and Saturday morning, beginners welcome. Places left in pre-school class on Saturday morning.  Free materials offer still applies till end of January.
