Walkability Audit
On the Thursday before the mid-term break, Sandra Pokrant from An Taisce came to our school to undertake a ‘walkability audit’. This involved 2 groups from the Green Schools Committee walking the most used routes to and from the school. We took pictures and measurements, carried out tallies, looked for any areas of danger and also noted the safety measures already in place. The Green Schools Committee also undertook a whole school survey to find out how people travel to school each day. We found that around 50% of children walk, 30% come by car, 19% cycle/scooter and 1% by other means. Over the next year or so it is hoped that less children will come by car and instead walk, cycle or scoot! In the next few weeks we are planning to have a SOW Day ‘Scoot On Wednesday’ so watch this space!!
