The School Day
By taking their place in the line and looking after their belongings on entering the classroom, children are informally learning independence and social skills. You can help in the development of these skills by arriving in the schoolyard by 08.30am and encouraging your child to line up when the bell goes.
The period between 8.30 and 9.00 is an important part of the school day. This is when the younger children have activity time or structured play and when teachers get to correct homework or hear children's reading.
Latecomers should enter the school via their usual door, which remains open until 08.50am. Children who arrive later than this must enter through Reception where their names are entered in the Sign-In book.
Green Schools
National Recycling Week takes place from 02 - 08 October. During this week, we hope to run a Competition for children in some classes. Children will be asked to recycle some everyday materials at home and create something useful/decorative from them. More details will follow. You, as parents, can help by talking to your children about recycling and perhaps inspire them with some ideas!
Hand Towels
The school does not provide communal towels in the children's bathrooms. In the interest of hygiene, it is important that every child brings a small hand towel/facecloth to dry his/her hands after using the WC. This should be kept in a school bag pocket and changed regularly.
Extra Curricular Activities
German & Spanish Classes
Mr Waring's classes for beginners in German on Wednesdays and Spanish on Thursdays will be starting up from the beginning of October. The classes will introduce the children to language and culture in a fun and active way. The term will run for ten weeks, ending 14 December. The cost for a term is €60. For the moment, places are limited to 3rd & 4th class children and application forms have been given to those who have expressed an interest. Places will be offered on a first come, first served basis.
Basketball
Due to the installation of the basketball nets next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, the hall is unfortunately out of use. Extra curricular classes have had to be cancelled on those dates but an extra class will be added on at the end of the term, Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 December.
