Week Ending 7th November 2008
Staff Meeting
There will be a Staff Meeting on Monday 10 November.
All children will finish at 12.00noon.

Confirmation Meeting
A meeting for parents of 6th Class Children who will be preparing to receive the sacrament of Confirmation will take place in St Mochta’s Parish Centre on 18 November 2008 at 8pm. Parents are requested to present a Baptismal Certificate for their child prior to this meeting. Please note your child cannot be formally enrolled for Confirmation until his/her Baptismal Certificate is received.  The certificate should be sent into your child’s teacher as soon as possible.  
The Enrolment ceremony for children of St Patrick’s School will take place in St Mochta’s Church on 25th November 2008 at 8pm.

Collections during Break time
If you need to collect your child during the school day, please do not do so during playtime (10.20-10.30am and 12.00-12.30pm) as children must be signed out through the main office before leaving the premises. Your cooperation in this matter would be very much appreciated.

Celtic Travelling Book Fair
The Book Fair will be in the school from Tuesday 11 November to Friday 14 November. Feel free to call in at dropping off and collection times to browse through the selection available. This is a great opportunity to get started on your Christmas shopping! The more books you buy, the more books the school will receive to help to stock the school library. A limited number of leaflets are available from beside the Parent Information Notice Board.

Science Week
National Science week takes place next week.  As usual our school will have a number of events taking place promoting science. A group of 5th class children will visit ITB Blanchardstown for a science exhibition.  Dr. Declan Gilheany will work with some of our students in a work shop entitled 'Building Atoms and Molecules', launching our Science Club for this year.  There will be competitions and prizes for all class levels.  A list of science websites will be available to pupils to take home and explore (with parental supervision!).
 
Internet Safety Campaign
As we all know, the internet can a wonderful teaching and learning resource.  However, it is not without pitfalls.  The school will be running an Internet Safety for Children workshop in the near future.  This will involve an evening lecture for parents and in-class workshops for children from 3rd-6th class during the year.  If you as a parent would be interested in attending such a lecture in our school, please sign your name on the list on the notice board at reception.  If you are unavailable to sign the list, please email info@stpatricksns.ie to register your interest.

Rainbows
Children will bring a letter home today about Rainbows.  Rainbows is a peer support group for children who have experienced a loss through separation or bereavement in their families.  If your child is interested in attending Rainbows, please return the form at the bottom of the letter to the school, addressed to Sorcha Gannon. Upon registration there will be a parents' information evening to tell you more about the programme. 

NPC
National Parents Council Primary can provide a service in our school to reach out to parents that currently find accessing their services and supports problematic. Members of the NPC will launch this service in our school on Wednesday19 November. They will be available to meet with any parents from 08.30am to 9.30am in the Tigers Room. Operation Christmas Child
Third – Sixth class children will be filling shoeboxes to send to needy children in Eastern Europe and Southern Africa. If any child from any other class would like to fill a shoebox, he/she is welcome to do so. Special Labels must be attached to the Shoebox. These will be distributed by the teachers to the children who would like to take part. The closing date is 11 November 2008. (See www.samaritanspurse.ie for more information).

School Milk Scheme
Closing date for orders is Monday 10 November. No orders can be accepted after this date. School Milk will commence on Tuesday 11 November.

Sponsored Walk
It’s never too late to send in your Sponsored Walk Money! As soon as all monies are received, we will advise the total collected.

Parenting Courses

CCC Formal Enrolment of First Year Pupils for September 2009
Formal Enrolment is taking place between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Wednesday 12 November. Parents of all pupils concerned have been notified directly by Castleknock Community College.

Green School
New Committee: Congratulations to the following children who have been chosen as members of this year’s Green School Committee: Cian Brannigan (1st), Shaun Mealia (2nd), Ateeq Jamshiad (3rd), Rahul Shah and Megan Yeates (4th), Megan McGrane, Mufaro Simango and Michelle Mutuleasa (5th), Luke Doyle and David Fraine (6th). They attended their first Committee Meeting during the week. The following reminders came about as a result of this week’s meeting:
Reminder
Some Green School Reps reported that almost full pieces of fruit are being put into the organic waste bins. Please remind your children that only fruit skins/peelings and apple cores should be placed in the organic waste bins.

Attention All Our Swimmers
The management of the National Aquatic Centre require that all swimmers must shower immediately before their swim. This is for health and safety reasons.
